Our Opportunity:

As the Buyer - Beauty, your role will involve selecting and developing innovative products that resonate with the Sportsgirl customer, while ensuring the department meets established sales targets, intake margins, planned markdowns, and overall gross profit. Your experience in managing a high SKU count category will be crucial for success in this dynamic position. You will engage in both buying and product development, showcasing your creativity and innovation for our beloved Sportsgirl beauty products, ensuring they are timely and on-trend. Your passion, agility, and strong organizational skills will be evident, along with your ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders. Leading the Buying Assistant in this category, you will collaborate closely with them and have the opportunity to mentor and inspire high performance and business outcomes.

Your day-to-day will include:
  • Purchasing merchandise to achieve budgeted sales results, meet gross profit objectives, and identify growth opportunities.
  • Ensuring that OTB, margins, and pricing strategies for the department are effectively managed.
  • Demonstrating a keen understanding of beauty trends relevant to the Sportsgirl customer.
  • Reviewing and approving all development and PP samples to ensure they align with Sportsgirl's quality standards.
  • Adapting and interpreting international products and trends in line with the Sportsgirl brand vision.
  • Coaching and mentoring your Buying Assistant.
  • Establishing strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Clearly briefing suppliers when requesting samples and negotiating costs to secure the best pricing.
  • Acting as an ambassador for the Sportsgirl brand while maintaining effective internal and external relationships.
To be successful in this role, you must have:
  • A diploma in Fashion/Design/Merchandising or a degree in Business/Commerce.
  • Previous experience as a designer, fashion buyer, or product developer in the beauty category is ideal.
  • A solid understanding of buying and planning principles.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and mentoring capabilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage critical paths, deadlines, and lead times.
  • Proven experience in direct sourcing.
  • Strong negotiation skills and commercial acumen.
  • A demonstrated understanding of financial management, including assortment planning and OTB management.
  • A comprehensive understanding of both local and international marketplaces.
