Our Opportunity:As the Buyer - Beauty, you will be responsible for selecting and developing innovative products that resonate with the Sportsgirl customer, while ensuring the department meets its sales objectives, intake margins, planned markdowns, and overall gross profit. Your background in a high SKU count category will be crucial in this fast-paced environment. You will engage in both buying and product development, showcasing your creativity and innovation to ensure our beloved Sportsgirl beauty products are always on trend. Your passion, agility, and strong organizational skills will be essential, as will your ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders. You will lead the Buying Assistant in this category, working closely with them to foster high performance and achieve business outcomes.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:- Purchasing merchandise to achieve budgeted sales results, meet gross profit targets, and identify growth opportunities.
- Ensuring OTB, margins, and pricing strategies for the department are met.
- Demonstrating an understanding of beauty trends relevant to the Sportsgirl customer.
- Reviewing and approving all development and PP samples to ensure they align with Sportsgirl's quality standards.
- Redesigning and interpreting international products and trends in line with the Sportsgirl brand vision.
- Coaching and mentoring your Buying Assistant.
- Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Clearly briefing suppliers when requesting samples and negotiating costs for the best pricing.
- Acting as an ambassador for the Sportsgirl brand while maintaining effective relationships.
- A diploma in Fashion/Design/Merchandising or a degree in Business/Commerce.
- Previous experience as a designer, fashion buyer, or product developer in the beauty category.
- An understanding of buying and planning principles.
- Strong communication, leadership, and mentoring skills.
- Excellent organizational skills to manage critical paths, deadlines, and lead times.
- Proven experience in direct sourcing.
- Strong negotiation skills and commercial awareness.
- A demonstrated understanding of financial management, including assortment planning and OTB management.
- A solid understanding of both local and international markets.
