The Role

The Community Development Officer is responsible for engaging with key stakeholders across the Rockhampton Region, Livingstone and Banana Shires to promote and create active referral pathways for the Rockhampton Homelessness and Housing Programs. The initial focus is awareness raising and community engagement resulting in increased referrals, client contact, strategic networking, and the overall visibility of the SVDP housing & homelessness programs across the sector and within the broader community.

The role will be based in Rockhampton and is an outreach role with significant travel through the Region and Shires. This position does not manage a team but works closely with all resources within the programs and managing budget and financials relevant to the project plan.

This is a permanent full-time position (38 hours per week) role based in Rockhampton.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engaging with community members to identify their needs and concerns.
  • Developing and implementing strategies to address the identified issues.
  • Collaborating with local organizations, businesses, and government agencies to secure resources and support for projects.
  • Organizing and facilitating community meetings, workshops, and other events to promote community involvement.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the progress of development projects, adjusting plans as needed.
  • Preparing reports and presentations to communicate project results and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Assisting in securing funding for community development initiatives through grant applications and fundraising activities.

General

  • Attend conferences, regional and central council meetings as required.
  • Contribute to the ongoing process of continual improvement and effective teamwork.
  • Develop effective relationships with the organisation's members, volunteers, and staff and maintain close working relationships with external providers as required.
  • Undertake other duties, which are assigned from time to time by your Manager.
  • In all duties, comply with the behavioural expectations set out in the St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland Code of Conduct, and our policies and procedures.
  • Comply with all WHS duties and responsibilities as a worker in accordance with the document WHS Directive: WHS Roles and Responsibilities and the WHS Act 2011.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant tertiary degree in community development or a related specialisation such as social work or public administration and relevant experience in similar position.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the philosophy of the St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland and an ability to work in accordance with policies and procedures to promote the values and mission of the Society.
