Sustainability Specialist Job Description

ASC is Australia's submarine company, with a proven track record in designing, building and sustaining submarines for the Royal Australian Navy. We are now embarking on a new chapter, delivering the nation's nuclear-powered submarines - the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia's history.

As a Sustainability Specialist at ASC, you will play a key role in achieving our vision of creating a sustainable and responsible future. You will work closely with our ESG Working Group to develop and implement strategies that minimize harm and create positive impact across our operations and supply chain.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and communicate ASC's Sustainability Management Framework (SMF) in accordance with applicable Australian legislation and international standards such as the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  2. Lead the maintenance and continuous improvement of the framework, identifying ways to achieve positive sustainability outcomes and assist the business in implementing related sustainability improvement initiatives.
  3. Build an effective ESG Working Group across the business, including establishing and overseeing awareness, training, and coaching programs.
  4. Work actively with ASC's IT function to establish supporting ESG data capturing and reporting systems.
  5. Lead the definition of assurance requirements in alignment with the three lines of defense approach and primary contact with ASC's external audit providers on sustainability matters.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Experience in establishing and implementing Sustainability frameworks, consisting of Environment, Social & Governance (ESG).
  • Previous experience in leading a team.
  • Ability to use and adapt written and verbal communication skills to suit a variety of different audiences.
  • Effective team member, with the capability of developing professional relationships with others outside of their immediate team.
  • Works well without direct supervision and has strong initiative to be a self-starter.
