Safety Compliance Advisor Job Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and capable SSEQ Compliance Advisor to join our team in a key operational role supporting both day and night shifts.

This is a frontline role providing second-line assurance across all maintenance and construction works at Sydney Airport.

  • Conduct regular inspections and audits during day and curfew periods to ensure compliance with WHS regulations.
  • Maintain oversight of contractor activities, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, environmental, and security protocols.
  • Provide expert advice and coaching on risk management practices and participate in workshops, toolbox talks, and pre-start briefings.
  • Evaluate contractor SWMS, Safety Management Plans, and permits to identify potential risks.
  • Collaborate with project teams, maintenance staff, and operations personnel to coordinate tasks and manage interfaces.
  • Support post-curfew activities by assisting with return-to-service tasks.
  • Contribute to the implementation and maintenance of Sydney Airport's Critical Risk Program.
  • Pursue continuous improvement initiatives by identifying areas for enhancement and implementing changes as necessary.
Key Qualifications

To succeed in this challenging role, you will require:

  • Tertiary qualifications in construction, engineering, WHS, or a related trade.
  • Proven experience in construction supervision or compliance roles.
  • Detailed knowledge of WHS legislation, QA systems, and risk management principles.
  • Strong skills in incident response, inspections, and contractor engagement.
  • Able to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and permits.
  • Familiarity with Australian construction standards (e.g., BCA, NCC).
  • Understanding of contractor management, construction safety, and high-risk work frameworks.
  • WHS or Lead Auditor certification is an asset.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Customer-focused with a commitment to delivering exceptional service.
