Health and Safety Assurance Specialist

The primary goal of this role is to drive compliance and foster a proactive safety culture. This involves ensuring the continuous improvement of the Health & Safety Management System, auditing and assurance programs, and communicating legislative compliance.
This position requires the ability to develop and execute assurance programs including audits, inspections, and reviews, as well as coordinate with the HSW Partnering team and H&S Senior Specialists to ensure efficient timing and resourcing of audits.
Key responsibilities also include supporting the design, implementation, and maintenance of HSMS aligned with ISO 45001 and relevant Australian legislation, ensuring legislative compliance, and communicating changing governance requirements.
Your Key Responsibilities:- Develop and execute assurance programs;
- Coordinate with the HSW Partnering team and H&S Senior Specialists;
- Support the design, implementation, and maintenance of HSMS;
- Ensure legislative compliance and communicate changes;
- Work closely with leaders and staff to share leading practice and educate on health, safety, and wellbeing requirements;
- Act as a trusted advisor providing coaching and guidance on HSMS matters.

- Tertiary qualifications in Health and Safety or an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, presenting to groups, facilitating workshops, and chairing meetings;
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Australian Safety Standards, Safe work Australia, SafeWork NSW, and Workcover publications;
- Knowledge of Risk Management practices and application of government legislation and codes of practice;
- Extensive practical experience of Work Health and Safety with understanding of relevant legislation and policies;
- Significant experience of H&S auditing/assurance in a large, complex organisation;
- Certification as a Lead Auditor in OHS Management Systems ISO 45001 (desirable).
