About the Family Support Specialist Role

The Family Support Specialist supports vulnerable children and their caregivers in a range of programs. This role is highly rewarding, working with foster and kinship families in Northern Tasmania.

  • Conducts comprehensive assessments and provides ongoing support to caregivers within a co-created plan.
  • Promotes the best interests of the child/children to ensure their safety and wellbeing.

The role requires strong assessment and case management skills, as well as demonstrated interpersonal and advocacy abilities.

About You

  • Can work autonomously as part of a statewide team, with oversight from a Team Leader and Carer Support Manager.
  • Uses guidelines, procedure manuals, practice frameworks and policies to exercise professional judgment when working under limited direction.
  • Undertakes work with integrity and honesty, adhering to confidentiality requirements and demonstrating a commitment to working effectively with clients and stakeholders.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated comprehensive family and carer assessment skills, including case management and active outreach and engagement.
  • Evidence-informed knowledge and understanding of child development, trauma, and risk assessment and management.
  • Understanding of the complexity of child safety services, out-of-home care, and family support systems and the issues involved in providing services to families and children with complex needs.
