Hawkesbury District Hospital seeks Career Medical Officers to join our General Medicine Unit on a temporary basis. The ideal candidate will have qualifications and experience commensurate with the essential requirements for the role.

The primary purpose of the Career Medical Officer is assessment, investigation and initial management of patients admitted to the inpatient ward of Hawkesbury District Hospital, under the direction of the Admitting Specialist. You will make decisions regarding patient care clearly documented and communicated with the specialist responsible for that care.

A key requirement of the role is the ability to work autonomously within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise. You must also be able to collaborate effectively within multi-disciplinary teams, share appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services, and display flexibility to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment.

We are seeking individuals with minimum four years postgraduate experience and demonstrated clinical practice as a registered medical practitioner in the last 2 years in a setting appropriate to the needs of the position. Advanced verbal, written and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences.

Responsibilities include prioritising workloads and displaying a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment. A commitment to continuing professional development and self-education is also required, as well as a commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
