Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and motivated individual to join our Library and Cultural Collections department as an Art Exhibition and Display Support Specialist. In this role, you will assist with the installation and deinstallation of exhibitions and artwork at Plimsoll Gallery and off-site locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Under supervision, assist with exhibition preparation, including packing and unpacking of artworks, exhibition technology, and lighting.
  • Maintain compliance with UTAS workplace health and safety procedures when performing manual handling tasks, including loading and unloading of crates and heavy items.
  • Assist in the organisation of storage areas and gallery spaces, ensuring cleanliness and tidiness.
  • Ensure compliance with established procedures and frameworks for Exhibitions/Collections and the handling of artworks.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, artists, and other stakeholders to achieve project objectives.

Requirements:

  • Experience in art handling and safe hands-on installation of complex exhibitions and displays following Work Health Safety principles.
  • Physical capability to repeatedly lift and move heavy, awkward objects, with the ability to safely perform manual handling tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills, including the ability to work in teams and collaborate with multiple stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated capability to continually learn and adapt new knowledge, skills, technology, and techniques.
  • Preferred minimum Certificate III level qualification in visual arts, trades, design, or equivalent experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • A current First Aid certificate or willingness to attain one.
  • Travel may be required between campuses.
  • Current drivers' licence.
