Remote Pilot Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Remote Pilot to join our team. This role involves operating Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPAS) in various settings, including disaster response, surveillance, and inspection missions.

The successful candidate will possess excellent aeronautical knowledge, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete pre-flight planning, including risk assessments and safety plans;
  • Observe and interpret meteorological data to ensure safe operating conditions;
  • Review aeronautical charts to identify relevant features, hazards, and risks;
  • Complete pre-flight checks and required documentation;
  • Liaise with air traffic control and/or other crewed aircraft to maintain safe flying operations;
  • Control the RPA in airspace with other crewed and uncrewed aircraft;
  • Conduct aircraft and associated equipment inspections and maintenance;
  • Complete all flight and aircraft log records;
  • Provide rapid deployment capability to support emergent issues;
  • Participate in required training and education;
  • Maintain CASA certification to enable lawful flight operations;
  • Ensure ongoing effective communications with the Chief Remote Pilot;
  • Work collaboratively with other workgroups to provide fit-for-purpose service delivery;
  • Support investigations of all incidents;
  • Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of First Nations people.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Degree in a relevant field such as aviation or a related discipline;
  • CASA certification for RPAS operation;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment;
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities;
  • Willingness to travel for program activities and specialist flight operations.
