About This Opportunity

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and compassionate individual to join our team as an Animal Care Specialist at our Gold Coast Rehoming Centre.

The successful candidate will be working closely with our dedicated staff and volunteers to ensure the highest standard of animal welfare, including dogs, cats, and small pets.

Maintaining and cleaning of animal housing to a high standard is also a key responsibility of this role, as well as providing exceptional animal care, including administering routine veterinary medications and treatments.

This position requires someone who is able to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication skills and the ability to provide positive-based enrichment and behaviour management programs for animals.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the welfare of animals in care, including dogs, cats, and small pets, is to the highest standard
  • Maintaining and cleaning of animal housing to a high standard
  • Providing exceptional animal care, including administering routine veterinary medications and treatments
  • Providing positive-based enrichment and behaviour management programs for animals
  • Impounding and reuniting lost animals with owners
  • Assisting customers with pet meet and greets and adoptions
  • Updating animal and person records using our digital system

To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Have:

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • The ability to work in a team and independently
  • Experience working with dogs, cats, and livestock
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability with animal quarantine and disease management
  • Confident dog and cat handling skills, able to read body language and communicate animal behaviour
  • Computer skills, able to use Microsoft Office, email, and data management systems
