Key Responsibilities- Build Relationships and Connections: Develop and maintain strong relationships with children, young people, birth parents, and carers, focusing on strengths-based, capacity-building, and transparent approaches.
- Trauma-Informed Practice: Provide trauma-informed and trauma-responsive interactions with children, young people, and adults, recognizing the potential for abuse, neglect, separation, or loss.
- Family Support and Engagement: Work with birth parents and extended families in an empathic and transparent manner, focused on building capacity and supporting their needs.
- Advocacy and Collaboration: Advocate with internal and external services to deliver interventions that support and nurture the needs of children, young people, and families.
- Case Planning and Review: Develop, implement, and review plans for each child in care, ensuring plans reflect principles of permanency planning, Aboriginal placement principles, and participation.
- Parenting Support and Coaching: Plan, supervise, and coach birth parents and others in family time and other interactions to build parenting skills and capacity.
- Tertiary Qualification: Hold a tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, or a Social Welfare-related discipline, or be substantially progressed towards such qualification.
- Knowledge and Experience: Possess knowledge of child development, childhood developmental trauma, parenting support, and capacity building. Demonstrate experience working with children, young people, and families in a child protection or OOHC context.
- Technical Skills: Be proficient in using electronic case management tools and have knowledge of the current NSW legislation and requirements regarding the care and protection of children, young people, and working with authorized carers.
- Cultural Competence: Have experience working with children, young people, and families from a CALD, refugee, or cultural background that has experienced significant displacement and trauma.
- Teamwork and Engagement: Demonstrate capacity and experience in working in teams and building engagement and relationships with a range of different stakeholders.
- Development Opportunities: Access to individual and group mentoring, secondments, acting up, and project work.
- Flexible Working Arrangements: Opportunities for flexible working arrangements to support work-life balance.
- Cultural Leave: Access to cultural leave and additional annual leave during Christmas/New Year break.
- Volunteer Opportunities: Opportunities to participate in community events and volunteer work.
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Support: Support from the Aboriginal Cultural Unit (ACU) and Barnardos Indigenous Group (BIG) to meet cultural needs within the organization.
The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary of $73,804 to $91,259 per annum, plus leave loading and superannuation. Packaging is available to receive $15,860 of your salary tax-free. Motor vehicle packaging is available on selected roles.
To be considered for this role, you will need to have (or be willing to have conducted) a National Police Clearance and current Working with Children check Clearance (or APP number), and for the ACT a Drivers History Check, Working with Vulnerable People Card, and CYPS Check. Vaccination for COVID-19 is a condition of employment and engagement with Barnardos.
