Animal Care Lead Technician

We are seeking an experienced Animal Care Lead Technician to join our team in a small city in Australia.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Supervise a small team of Animal Care Technicians and promote workplace safety within the team.
  • Lead team meetings and complete orientation and training of new Animal Care Technicians.
  • Maintain routine animal husbandry and clean and maintain accommodation pens, fittings, and equipment.
  • Handle and use chemicals, operate machinery and equipment, and care for animals including providing feed and water stock.
  • Care for sick or injured stock and maintain herd health status at an acceptable level.
Livestock Analysis, Research & Advice:
  • Maintain high standards of quality and inspect effectiveness of feed formulae.
  • Assist in controlled breeding to develop improved livestock strains and arrange the supply of essential drugs, vaccines, and other chemicals.
  • Advise on production processes and farming techniques.
Requirements:
  • A minimum of two years' experience within a similar role in Piggery operations.
  • Experience with supervising a small team.
  • Demonstrated experience in pig production, high level of understanding with Herd health factors, competent knowledge of APIQ & Welfare Standards, and strong communication skills.

This position is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the piggery, ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare and efficiency. The successful candidate will have excellent leadership and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
