As a Risk Underwriter, you will be responsible for delivering a profitable 'Underwriting' service to clients. Key tasks include:

  • Reviewing submissions, including applications, policy wording, inspection reports, loss runs, and financial reports, to determine the degree of risk for each account.
  • Calculating appropriate risk premium by considering risk costs, reinsurance cessions, and underwriting and general administration costs.
  • Proactively advising and assisting clients on insurance and risk management matters to ensure satisfaction and fulfillment of their insurance requirements.
  • Effective relationship management to initiate opportunities for cross-selling offered products and ensuring account retention.
  • Controlling timely implementation of new and renewed accounts according to quality standards.
  • Determining appropriate reinsurance for risk placements on excess of loss and quota share basis.
  • Maintaining awareness of all claims advised while supporting and providing input on settlement of claims.
  • Working collaboratively in a team environment, assisting underwriters, underwriting assistants, and management team.

You will report to the Underwriting Manager, Casualty.

We're looking for someone with a Bachelor's Degree and equivalent experience in the relevant class of business, possessing functional knowledge and skills reflective of a fully competent practitioner.

Key skills include:

  • Marketing - Effectively planning for sales and business development.
  • Negotiation/Sales - Planning, structuring, and conducting negotiations with brokers and/or clients to reach outcomes that gain the support and acceptance of all parties.
  • Analytical Skills - Visualizing, gathering information, articulating, analyzing, and solving complex problems to make key business decisions.
  • Interpersonal Savvy - Building excellent interpersonal relationships with brokers, clients, and colleagues to improve personal profile and reputation within AXA XL and the broader market.
  • Strategy and Planning - Making underwriting decisions to fulfill business strategic plan and deliver results.
  • Industry Knowledge - Understanding of the insurance industry and specific product portfolios to positively impact the underwriting business.
