Job Overview

The role of Open Pit Manager is pivotal in leading and managing day-to-day open pit mining operations. This involves strategic planning, scheduling, and execution of activities to ensure seamless coordination between teams.

This senior leadership position requires a strong working knowledge of budgeting, capital allocation, and cost management to drive operational efficiency.

Main Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement comprehensive strategies for open pit mining operations, encompassing planning, scheduling, and execution.
  • Own and manage Mining Department Open Pit strategic plans, Life Of Mine (LOM) contributions, operating / capital / manpower budgets, and costs to align with site strategic and operational plans.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance relevant systems and processes, ensuring production priorities are effectively communicated and achieved.
  • Drive resource allocation and budgeting initiatives to optimize people and equipment utilization.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to a diverse team of mining professionals, fostering a culture of safety first, respect, and continuous improvement.
Key Qualifications
  • Degree in Mining Engineering from a recognized tertiary institution.
  • Unrestricted Quarry Manager's Certificate of Competency or First Class Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency.
  • Site Senior Executive Certificate (Desirable)
  • Proven experience in contract mining environments and varied commodities, styles of mineralization, scales, and application of mining.
  • Applicable previous management and statutory position holding experience.
  • Proven track record of effectively leading and inspiring large teams, with the ability to motivate, mentor, and exert influence.
  • Strong working knowledge in budgeting, capital allocation, and cost management.
  • Proficiency in public speaking, demonstrating strong presentation and influential skills.
