About the Role

The Safeguards Project Officer will contribute to the implementation of the Safeguards Team within the Far West Local Health District.

The position will undertake project management activities including project planning, stakeholder negotiation, milestone reporting, and implementation of quality improvement processes.

The Project Officer will work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, including FWLHD managers and staff, consumers, and carers, key external partners, the Agency for Clinical Innovation, and the NSW Ministry of Health to facilitate the effective implementation of the Safeguards Team.

The Safeguards Team is a new dedicated CAMHS resource designed to provide innovative and best practice care to children and adolescents aged 0-17 years experiencing acute mental health distress.

The team is community-based and provides rapid, mobile, and flexible care to resolve mental health crises, including assertive outreach, care coordination, and time-limited therapeutic interventions.

The Safeguards Team operates 7 days a week with extended hours on weekdays and responds to young people in their schools, homes, and communities and in hospital-based settings through face-to-face, phone, and telehealth appointments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the implementation of the Safeguards Team within the Far West Local Health District
  • Undertake project management activities including project planning, stakeholder negotiation, milestone reporting, and implementation of quality improvement processes
  • Work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to facilitate the effective implementation of the Safeguards Team
  • Provide innovative and best practice care to children and adolescents aged 0-17 years experiencing acute mental health distress
  • Respond to mental health crises through assertive outreach, care coordination, and time-limited therapeutic interventions

What You'll Need

  • Relevant project management qualifications and/or experience in the implementation of projects and initiatives in a health or similarly complex environment
  • Demonstrated time management skills and ability to prioritise and meet conflicting deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively, exercising initiative and judgement, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective, meaningful, and supportive working relationships with a range of stakeholders at all levels of the organisation and externally
  • Proven ability to communicate and negotiate with all stakeholders, including the ability to clearly explain complex ideas and customise communication to the audience
  • Proven ability to write fluently in a range of styles and formats, and competence in the use of information technology systems
  • Strong analytical skills with a demonstrated ability to interpret complex information rapidly and accurately
  • An understanding of the contemporary issues, challenges, and directions facing mental health services
