Job Overview

The position of Naval Architect is available at our organization, where we are looking for a skilled professional to support our Non-Combatant In-Service Support Programs for the Royal Canadian Navy.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough technical investigations into issues associated with hull repair, equipment foundations, marine equipment, and system malfunction.
  • Analyze requirements related to baseline changes in the ships configuration and equipment.
  • Develop, implement, and manage engineering changes and engineering work packages.
  • Evaluate compliance of engineering work packages with applicable standards including SOLAS, Classification Society, and Naval Ship Code.
  • Carry out detailed naval architecture tasks, including: Requirements analysis; Design calculations; Performance improvement investigations; Weight & moment assessments; and Rolling hull surveys, lightship surveys, and inclining tests.
Requirements
  • A degree in Engineering or equivalent in Naval Architecture or Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least 4 years of demonstrated experience in marine work within naval architecture / engineering within the last 10 years.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in management or development of engineering change projects.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer in Nova Scotia, Ontario, or British Columbia, Canada.
  • Experience in design, testing, and certification of shipboard lifting appliances including marine cranes.
  • Familiarity with conducting weight and stability calculations and associated tools, and lightship surveys.
  • Previous experience working under the regimes of SOLAS / IMO, CSA, Class Society, and DND regulations.
  • Past experience with the Royal Canadian Navy or Canadian Coast Guard.
  • Delivering marine in-service support of operational assets.
