The Role
Under general guidance from the Discipline Leader Ship Systems Analysis, you will nurture the development of model-based systems engineering tools to examine whole-of-vessel performance. You will use these tools to assess design trade-offs for both new platforms and upgrades to existing platforms, in order to maximise platform capability. Through external engagement with local and international collaboration partners, you will initiate research programs to further develop whole-of-platform performance modelling and systems engineering capabilities. In close consultation with relevant Defence stakeholders, you will be responsible for providing objective quality evidence to support Defence decision making in relation to the acquisition of new naval platforms, as well as platform capability upgrades.
About our Team
The Naval Architecture and Platform System Analysis Group is part of the Platforms Division. The Group leads research and development of advanced tools and methods to assess the whole-of-vessel performance for the ADF. We support Defence in design assurance activities and the transitioning of innovative methods to RAN and Army to increase availability, reduce costs and assure seaworthiness. We achieve this by partnering with both international and local organisations to remain at the cutting edge of scientific developments in whole-of-vessel performance including: seakeeping; multi-vessel interactions; operational loads; whole-of-vessel performance; structural response; integrated model based systems analysis and design trade-off studies.
Our Ideal Candidate
You are a subject matter expert in naval architecture/maritime engineering (or related sciences) with broad knowledge of whole-of-vessel performance characteristics. You can work effectively in a small interdisciplinary team environment and across organisational boundaries, clearly communicating complex technical results and their implications to a variety of stakeholders. You can deliver a capability edge to the ADF through your ability to collaborate with external partners, understand stakeholder requirements, develop targeted S&T work packages and respond to strategic drivers.
