
Development Leader

As a Development Assessment professional, you will lead a team in assessing and reporting on development applications.
You will be responsible for evaluating complex proposals, consulting with internal stakeholders and external experts, and maintaining accurate records of assessments and decisions.
Key Responsibilities:- Evaluate development proposals against State Environmental Planning Policies (SEPPs), Local Environmental Plans (LEPs) and other relevant legislation;
- Assess and make decisions on complex development applications requiring high-level analysis and consultation with internal stakeholders and external experts;
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of assessments and decisions made within the DASP area, including minute-taking at development committee meetings;
- Liaise with applicants, agents, consultants, other Council departments and external agencies to resolve complex and sensitive development applications;
- Prepare reports for submission to the City Council on development applications requiring determination under delegated authority;
- Manage development application workflow through specialized software systems;
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with clients, colleagues, partners, suppliers, and community groups to achieve business objectives;
- Cultivate partnerships with industry associations, government agencies and other stakeholders to promote efficient delivery of urban planning services;
- Degree or diploma qualifications in town planning, regional or urban planning recognised by the Planning Institute of Australia or related discipline;
- Extensive experience in Development Assessment is considered necessary to ensure the desired level of expertise/knowledge to adequately carry out the functions of the position;
- Experience in handling a wide range of complex applications relating to all possible development on industrial, commercial, or residential zoned land is considered essential to the responsible execution of duties that comprise this position;
- Experience in acting as an expert witness in the Land and Environment Court;
- Experience in providing instruction and giving evidence before Court;
- Proven experience in assessment and application of alternative solutions as provided for under the relevant legislation;
- Experience communicating with various internal and external stakeholders including the ability to deal with the community and professional industry to achieve the best possible outcome;
- Demonstrated experience and ability in supervising employees and developing a team environment;
- Demonstrated ability to interpret Acts and policies and to make appropriate decisions bearing in mind the circumstances and the legislative requirements;
- Experience processing planning related enquiries;
- Experience and ability to work in a team environment;
- Experience in providing leadership to team members;
- Current Class C Drivers Licence and SafeWork NSW WHS White Card.
