Job Title: Freedom of Information Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Freedom of Information Officer to join our team at Hobsons Bay City Council. As a key member of our Corporate Integrity team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the Council's compliance with the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Vic).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process applications for access to Council information, maintaining accurate status registers and providing guidance on suitable responses.
  • Coordinate the receipt and processing of external complaints, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
  • Prepare reports and develop policies in relation to areas of responsibility, including monitoring and reviewing processes for compliance with statutory obligations.
Requirements:
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Vic), with a strong understanding of the local government sector.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the FOI Act, Professional Standards, and OVIC practice notes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of stakeholders.
  • High-level competency with computer systems, particularly Microsoft programs and other Council key applications.
