About the Role

Australian Red Cross is seeking a dedicated Emergency Services Officer to join our team in Cairns QLD.

In this role, you will operate within a community development framework, representing Red Cross across diverse networks in the emergency management and community services sectors.

You will engage with key stakeholders, applying your advocacy skills to ensure the needs of the most vulnerable are prioritised before, during, and after disasters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify community needs and create engagement opportunities to build the capacity of individuals and communities to anticipate, respond to, and recover from crises
  • Develop local volunteer capabilities through mentorship and support, enhancing the skills and preparedness of those in the region
  • Act as a key ambassador for Red Cross, showcasing the organisation's impact across the region and fostering community trust

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, community outreach, and building partnerships
  • Experience in emergency management, project management, or community engagement and/or community development
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt to a range of audiences
  • Experience with volunteers' engagement and management ideally in an emergency management or community development context
