Role Summary
This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a high level of expertise in environmental management and science. As a Ranger, Environmental Management and Science Specialist, you will be responsible for planning and delivering the operational plan and annual work plan for the Work Unit. This will involve operating and maintaining plant and equipment, controlling pest plants and animals, undertaking planned burning and wildfire suppression activities, and maintaining park infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver the operational plan and annual work plan for the Work Unit.
- Operate and maintain plant and equipment, including small power equipment and tools.
- Control pest plants and animals, and undertake planned burning and wildfire suppression activities.
- Maintain park infrastructure, including visitor facilities and trails.
- Manage small projects, including compliance and natural and cultural resource management duties.
- Provide on-ground supervision to field-based staff and work collaboratively with others.
- Develop and implement the annual works program.
- Undertake law enforcement and compliance duties.
- Provide general information to park visitors and other stakeholders.
- Assist with emergency response.
- Monitor workplace health and safety.
- Undertake administrative duties, including compiling and maintaining records and procuring goods and services.
- Support and promote the interests of First Nations people.
Requirements
- High level of expertise in environmental management and science.
- Ability to plan and deliver complex projects.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and as a supervisor.
- Physical fitness to work in a variety of environments.
Working Conditions
This role requires the ability to work in a variety of environments, including remote and isolated areas, and to live and travel to different locations. A reasonable degree of physical fitness is required.
