Theatre Nursing Unit Manager

Job Summary:
The Chris O'Brien Lifehouse is seeking an experienced and skilled Theatre Nursing Unit Manager to lead our afterhours theatre nursing team. As a key member of our perioperative nursing team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our theatres during afterhours shifts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Support: Provide leadership and support to the nursing and theatre teams during afterhours shifts, ensuring high standards of patient care and safety.
- Theatre Operations: Ensure the smooth running of theatre operations, including surgical scheduling, patient preparation, and post-operative care.
- Clinical Decision Making: Act as the primary contact for any clinical or operational issues that arise after hours, making critical decisions to ensure patient safety and well-being.
- Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetists, and other healthcare professionals to provide optimal patient care, ensuring seamless communication and coordination.
- Staff Management: Manage staffing levels, including rostering and allocation of duties, to ensure adequate coverage and meet the needs of our patients.
- Quality and Safety: Maintain a safe and effective environment for patients and staff by adhering to hospital policies and procedures, ensuring high standards of quality and safety.
- Documentation and Reporting: Oversee the accurate and timely documentation of patient care, incidents, and reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Interdepartmental Collaboration: Coordinate with other hospital departments to facilitate efficient patient flow and emergency surgeries, ensuring seamless communication and coordination.
- Performance Management: Provide support, guidance, and performance feedback to the nursing team, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge to provide high-quality patient care.
Requirements:
- Qualifications: Current AHPRA registration and a minimum of 4 years of clinical experience in perioperative nursing, with demonstrated leadership capabilities.
- Knowledge and Skills: Advanced knowledge of Perioperative nursing standards, procedures, and clinical governance, with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- Experience: Experience in managing theatre schedules, staff rostering, and theatre resource allocation, with excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Availability: Availability to work afterhours shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
- Postgraduate Qualifications: Postgraduate qualifications in perioperative nursing or management, with previous experience as a Nursing Unit Manager or similar leadership role in a healthcare setting.
