Residential Support Specialist

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the development and delivery of personalized support plans tailored to meet the unique needs of residents.
  • Establish and maintain trusting relationships with residents, built on empathy, active listening, and effective communication.
  • Coordinate the 'Meet and Greet' process for prospective residents and new resident intakes, ensuring a seamless transition into our community.
  • Perform regular wellness checks to ensure the physical and emotional well-being of our residents.
  • Contribute to the setup and maintenance of our shelter, including cleaning tasks and supply distribution.
  • Support residents in their daily activities, such as room cleans and clean-out procedures.
  • Facilitate the application and referral process for housing and other support services, empowering residents to achieve their goals.
  • Develop and implement short-term intervention plans to address specific challenges faced by residents.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of intervention plans and provide regular progress updates.
  • Gather information on clients' problems, needs, and risks, using this data to inform individualized support strategies.
  • Conduct individual counseling sessions, employing active listening and conflict resolution techniques to promote positive outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date files for assigned residents, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Communicate program services and provide referrals to other community service providers, fostering a network of support and resources.
  • Employ influential techniques to engage resistant clients, promoting engagement and motivation.
  • Participate in laundry and custodial tasks as directed, contributing to the overall cleanliness and comfort of our shelter.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite, with proficiency in software applications used in residential support settings.
  • Training in non-violent crisis intervention and harm reduction approaches, with a focus on de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed care.
  • Knowledge of community resources and services available to shelter users and residents, with the ability to provide informed guidance and referrals.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative, creativity, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and decision-making skills, with the capacity to build effective relationships with residents, staff, and external partners.
  • Knowledge of behavior management techniques, with a focus on positive reinforcement and client-centered practices.
  • Diploma in a related human/social service field, such as social work or psychology.
  • A minimum of one year recent related experience, with a demonstrated track record of success in residential support settings.
