Role Overview

  • The Staff Specialist will deliver high-quality diagnostic, consultative, procedural, and on-call specialty services in Forensic Pathology. This role also includes participation in associated educational, research, quality enhancement, and administrative activities in line with the Staff Specialists (State) Award, ensuring a timely and respectful service for the deceased, their families, and the broader community.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Maintain current registration or eligibility for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and achieve Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in Forensic Pathology, or other specialist recognition as stipulated under the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Applicants expected to receive Fellowship by February 2025 are encouraged to apply.
  2. Exhibit contemporary clinical knowledge and technical proficiency in the specialty of Forensic Pathology.
  3. Show commitment to ongoing self-education and professional development, including evidence of participation in continuing medical education and professional development activities.
  4. Engage in teaching and training at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including the supervision of junior medical staff.
  5. Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, demonstrating excellent communication and organizational skills while managing competing priorities.
  6. Commit to the principles of clinical quality management and continuous improvement, possessing contemporary knowledge of National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council (NPAAC) Standards and NATA accreditation processes.
  7. Demonstrate the ability to work with the deceased in potentially distressing environments, ensuring to address any associated concerns and promote self-care strategies among staff.
  8. Exhibit the capacity to embody and promote the NSWHP RITE values of Respect, Integrity, Teamwork, and Excellence.

This is a Category A position. All Category A applicants must familiarize themselves with Policy Directive PD2022_030 regarding occupational assessment, screening, and vaccination against specified diseases. New recruits must comply with the requirements outlined in this policy and provide evidence against specified diseases at their own cost prior to appointment.
