Role Overview

  • The Staff Specialist will deliver exceptional diagnostic, consultative, procedural, and on-call specialty services in Forensic Pathology. This role includes participation in associated educational, research, quality enhancement, and administrative tasks, ensuring a timely and respectful service for the deceased, their families, and the broader community.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Maintain current registration or eligibility for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and obtain Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in Forensic Pathology, or other specialist recognition as per the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Candidates expected to achieve Fellowship by February 2025 are encouraged to express interest.
  2. Exhibit contemporary clinical knowledge and technical proficiency in the specialty of Forensic Pathology.
  3. Show commitment to ongoing self-education and professional development, including participation in continuing medical education and professional development activities.
  4. Engage in teaching and training at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including supervision of junior medical personnel.
  5. Demonstrate effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, showcasing excellent communication and organizational skills while managing competing priorities.
  6. Commit to the principles of clinical quality management and continuous improvement, with a contemporary understanding of National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council (NPAAC) Standards and NATA accreditation processes.
  7. Prove ability to work with the deceased in potentially distressing environments, ensuring any associated concerns are raised and addressed, while promoting self-care strategies among staff.
  8. Exhibit capacity to embody and promote the NSWHP RITE values of Respect, Integrity, Teamwork, and Excellence.
