About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced General Counsel to join our team at the Victorian Legal Services Board and Commissioner. As a key member of our leadership team, you will play a critical role in ensuring that we meet our obligations under relevant legislation and quality assurance standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice and guidance to the Commissioner, the Executive Leadership Team, and staff on a diverse range of legal issues, including contract negotiation and drafting, administrative law advice, and responses to litigation.
  • Manage a diverse portfolio of legal tasks, including contract negotiation, drafting, and review, as well as providing advice on insurance, workplace relations, and intellectual property matters.
  • Lead a small team of legal professionals, including direct reports in legal, procurement, and quality assurance.
  • Act as a sounding board for others, contributing to organisation-wide opportunities for improvement.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • A demonstrated ability to juggle multiple legal tasks and lead a small team.
  • At least 10 years' experience as a lawyer, preferably in in-house or government practice.
  • Extensive experience in contract negotiation, drafting, and review, as well as providing advice on administrative law, insurance, workplace relations, and intellectual property matters.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
