About the Role

As a Mine Warfare Clearance Diving Officer with the New Zealand Defence Force, you will lead a team of divers in the water, conducting explosive ordnance disposal, maritime security, and mine clearance tasks. This role requires strong leadership skills, as you will be responsible for the continued training, well-being, and career progression of your team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of divers in the water, conducting explosive ordnance disposal, maritime security, and mine clearance tasks
  • Manage the overall diving function, including safety management and working ashore in a headquarters providing advice about diving capabilities
  • Command a dive team and be responsible for their continued training, well-being, and career progression

Career Progression and Training

As a Mine Warfare Clearance Diving Officer, you will undergo extensive training, including the Junior Officer Common Training (JOCT) course, the Defence Diver Course, and the Officer of the Watch (OOW) Course. You will also have the opportunity to complete advanced specialist dive training, including the Clearance Diving Officer course and the Advanced Explosive Ordnance Disposal course.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this role, you must be a minimum of 17 years of age, be free of any criminal conviction for the previous two years, and meet the minimum entry fitness standards. You must also be medically fit for service and meet the colour perception requirements.
