About the Role


As an Electronic Warfare Specialist with the New Zealand Defence Force, you play a crucial role in identifying and defending against anti-ship missiles. You will be trained to have intimate knowledge of ships, aircraft, and their associated weapons and radars.



Career Progression

You will undergo 16 weeks of basic military training in Devonport, Auckland, followed by 16 weeks of specialist training at the Maritime Electronic Warfare School. During this time, you will complete training on sophisticated Command and Control Systems, Technical Radar Theory, and Warfare Theory.



Job Responsibilities

At sea, your primary duties will include intercepting radar emissions and identifying potential threats. You will provide the ship with early warning and situational awareness, enabling the Command Team to make informed decisions at the tactical level. Additionally, you will perform general tasks to assist with the functioning of the ship.



Deployment and Training

You will deploy on ANZAC Class ships, with opportunities to work on Multi Role Vessels, Off Shore Patrol Vessels, and Inshore Patrol Vessels. You will receive ongoing training to enhance your skills and stay up-to-date with the latest technologies.



Salary and Benefits

As an Electronic Warfare Specialist, you can expect a competitive salary, ranging from $50,597 for Initial Training to $122,331 for Future Potential Earnings. You will also enjoy benefits such as free access to gyms and swimming pools, subsidised food and accommodation, and free insurance cover.



Requirements


  • Be at least 18 years old upon completion of recruit course
  • Have been a NZ Citizen for a minimum of 10 years
  • Meet the citizenship & security requirements to gain TSV security clearance
  • Pass a full Psychological Assessment
  • Complete a 10-year background history check
  • Be medically fit for service and meet the minimum entry fitness standards
