Clearance Diving Officer

As a Clearance Diving Officer with the New Zealand Defence Force, you will lead a team of divers in maritime security and mine clearance tasks. You will work above and under the water, managing the overall diving function, including safety management, working ashore in a headquarters providing advice about diving capabilities, and commanding a dive team.
Career ProgressionOnce trained, you will be skilled in Mine Warfare and Mine Counter Measures, Clearance Diving, Underwater Engineering, and the disposal of explosive ordnance and improvised explosive devices. You will be employed in New Zealand and overseas as part of the Navy's Littoral Warfare Force, which includes land and maritime-based deployments with partner nations and organizations such as the United Nations and NATO.
Job Requirements- Be a minimum of 17 years of age upon entry.
- Be free of any criminal conviction for the previous two years.
- Pass an Officer Selection Board.
- Pass the RNZN Diver Selection Board.
You must also meet the minimum entry fitness standards and pass the Diver trade Multi-Stage Fitness Test, with a minimum of Level 9.5 on the beep test, 30 press-ups, 30 abdominal curls, 6 pull-ups, and a 400m fin-swim in no more than 8 minutes and 30 seconds.
Training and DevelopmentAfter completing your immediate job training, you'll begin a period of professional development, which includes:
- Diver Transfer Course (38 weeks)
- Overseas MCDO Course
- Officer of the Watch (OOW) Course (16 weeks)

The estimated salary for this role is $169,941 per year, depending on location and experience.
