Job Title: Legal Adviser

The Litigation and Dispute Resolution Team at an Australian government agency is responsible for overseeing legal risks associated with workers' compensation claims. They identify and manage scheme risks, ensuring strategic alignment throughout the litigation process.

The team provides strategic and legal support to the agency on diverse issues, including Federal Court litigation and managing litigation risk. They ensure the agency's policy and strategic objectives are considered.

The Legal Adviser works closely with the Senior Legal Adviser to deliver litigation and dispute resolution services to the agency. They resolve problems, manage risk effectively and manage their workload in line with APS Values and Code of Conduct.

Key Qualifications:

  • Admission as a legal practitioner of the High Court or Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory
  • Current practicing certificate or ability to obtain one within three months.
  • Experience in Tribunal and Court procedures, or providing advice and/or running litigation matters in a workers' compensation scheme environment.

Eligibility and Specific Conditions of Employment:

  • Character clearance (Australian Criminal History Check).
  • Employee Health Declaration.
  • Six months probationary period for new engagements.
