Therapeutic Specialist Role

Job Description

The Therapeutic Specialist provides leadership and therapeutic oversight of services to infants, children, and young people in statutory care. Targeted interventions include assessments, developing therapeutic response plans, therapeutic parenting interventions, and systemic interventions such as reflective practice, care team meetings, and staff education.

This role requires a skilled professional to develop therapeutic relationships with children, young people, and their parents/caregivers, providing tailored support to meet their unique needs. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to design and implement effective therapeutic responses.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • A tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Mental Health Nursing, or a related discipline
  • Current registration with the relevant professional body
  • Experience working in trauma-informed or therapeutic care settings, or delivering therapeutic services to children and young people in Out-of-Home Care (OOHC)
  • Expertise in developing therapeutic alliances and working within multi-disciplinary teams to support therapeutic responses
  • Skilled in child-safe and inclusive practice, delivering therapeutic services to children, young people, and their families
  • Knowledge and understanding of NSW Child Protection legislation and the NSW Child Safe Standards for Permanent Care
