About the Role

The Tiwi Land Council is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Legal Advisor to join our Management Team as a Principal Legal Officer. This is a key leadership role that will provide strategic legal advice to the Council and its stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide accurate, comprehensive, and strategic advice to the Council on a broad range of matters, including commercial arrangements, employment law, administrative law, governance, and risk.
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with the Tiwi Land Council's land use application process.
  • Provide input into and prepare policies and procedures for the Council.
  • Work independently as a General Counsel and provide supervision to additional lawyers employed by the Council.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve the Council's objectives.
  • Represent the Council's interests at stakeholder meetings and in relation to external policy matters.
  • Identify the need for external legal expertise and prepare written instructions, including briefs.
