Our organization is seeking an experienced and skilled Urban Planning Specialist to join our team. This role involves working on diverse projects that shape the future of our city, from major rezonings and State Significant Developments to creating planning policies and strategies that enhance liveability, sustainability, and design outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead complex planning proposal assessments and policy reviews
  • Negotiate agreements to secure optimal community benefits
  • Contribute to land use strategy development, planning instrument preparation, and urban design policy implementation
  • Represent organizational interests in State infrastructure and development projects
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, manage specialist consultants, and engage with stakeholders
  • Prepare high-quality reports and advice for senior management and the Local Planning Panel

About You:

  • Tertiary qualifications in town planning, urban design, or a related field (essential)
  • Proven track record in strategic planning, policy development, and complex assessment work
  • Strong understanding of planning legislation, State planning policies, and the plan-making process
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating agreements and achieving positive community outcomes
  • Excellent communication skills, influencing, negotiating, and building strong relationships with stakeholders
  • Strong project management skills, balancing competing priorities
