Investigative Reporter Role Overview

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct in-depth research on public interest issues, developing complex storytelling approaches and generating original local and state stories with national significance.
  • Create compelling, timely, and impactful digital content for all ABC platforms, maintaining comprehensive understanding of local, state, and national current events, political, social, and economic issues.
  • Scrutinise and break significant stories, identifying suitable sources and contributing to local Newcastle news content.
About You:

We seek an exceptional Investigative Reporter with a strong background in broadcast and digital media, known for breaking impactful state and national stories. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Strong skills in journalism, editing, and research, with a focus on original stories showcasing Australia's diversity.
  • Ability to explain complex issues clearly and engage audiences across various platforms.
  • Good understanding of digital trends and how to use audience insights for better storytelling.
  • Skilled in various production techniques, including long-form digital content; creative in storytelling methods.
  • Excellent communication skills; able to work well alone or in a team, managing time to meet deadlines.
