Full Time Permanent Nursery Worker

Job Description:

Our nursery is looking for a skilled and experienced Nurseryperson to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the cultivation, harvesting, and maintenance of trees, shrubs, ornamental, and flowering plants.

The role involves preparing soil by digging, raking, screening, and enriching it with nutrients; filling cold frames and hot beds for optimal plant growth; selecting, planting, and propagating seedlings, bulbs, cuttings, and grafts; transplanting young plants and ensuring proper growth conditions; manually watering plants and operating irrigation systems to maintain optimal moisture levels in fields and greenhouses.

Additionally, you will be required to apply fertilizers and protective sprays to enhance plant health and prevent pests and diseases; operate tractors, sprayers, and other nursery equipment for cultivation, harvesting, and maintenance tasks; observe plant growth, assess soil and plant conditions, and maintain records of treatments, watering schedules, and plant development.

Digging, cutting, and transplanting trees, shrubs, flowers, and plants; packaging and preparing them for sale and distribution are also essential duties of this role.

You will assist customers by providing expert guidance on plant selection, purchasing, and care, ensuring proper handling and maintenance.

It is essential to maintain clean and organized work areas, ensuring proper care of nursery stock, landscaping, and greenhouse facilities.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Minimum AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV
  • At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications listed above
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience is a must
Skills and Attributes:
  • Knowledge of plant care, propagation, and pest/disease control
  • Ability to operate and maintain gardening tools and equipment
  • Understanding of soil types, fertilizers, and irrigation systems
  • Physical fitness for manual work and outdoor conditions
  • Attention to detail for monitoring plant health and growth
  • Time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently or in a team
