
Youth Support Specialist

This role provides individualised support for children and young people residing in OOHC homes.
The young people have experienced childhood trauma, abuse or neglect and may have a mental health, physical or psychosocial disabilities.
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct person-centred support and care to young people who reside in OOHC homes, ensuring their individual needs are met.
- Crisis intervention and ongoing support.
- Maintain a safe and welcoming home environment.
- Empower young people to develop skills which support them to live a good life within their local community.
A typical day in the life of this role could include:
- Supporting young people to develop independent living skills.
- Supporting young people to achieve their goals.
- Supporting young people to engage in their local communities (through school, community groups etc.).
- Daily care and support, including assisting with household duties.
- Transporting young people to and from appointments.
- Supporting connection to family and culture.
- Working alongside other professionals (such as Behaviour Support Practitioners) to deliver multi-disciplinary care.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the safety of children, young people, and people with a disability.
- An understanding of strength-based trauma informed practice (or willingness to learn).
- Qualifications in Community Services, Residential Care, Welfare of other related areas (Cert IV) (highly regarded).
- Previous experience in residential therapeutic care and complex trauma (highly regarded).
- Willingness to work a flexible roster, including weekends, evenings and sleepovers.
- Ability to obtain the NDIS Workers Screening Check prior to commencement.
- Ability to obtain a paid NSW Working with Children Check prior to commencement.
- Willingness to be registered on the NSW Residential Care Workers Register.
- Complete a National Criminal History Check (paid by us).
- Ability to be physically active and engage with young people playing games/sport etc.
- Ability to use computers and learn a variety of software/programs.
- Hold a current Australian Driver's License.
