Job Role

This role provides individualised support for children and young people residing in OOHC homes.

The young people have experienced childhood trauma, abuse or neglect and may have a mental health, physical or psychosocial disabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct person-centred support and care to young people who reside in OOHC homes, ensuring their individual needs are met.
  • Crisis intervention and ongoing support.
  • Maintain a safe and welcoming home environment.
  • Empower young people to develop skills which support them to live a good life within their local community.
A Day in the Life

A typical day in the life of this role could include:

  • Supporting young people to develop independent living skills.
  • Supporting young people to achieve their goals.
  • Supporting young people to engage in their local communities (through school, community groups etc.).
  • Daily care and support, including assisting with household duties.
  • Transporting young people to and from appointments.
  • Supporting connection to family and culture.
  • Working alongside other professionals (such as Behaviour Support Practitioners) to deliver multi-disciplinary care.
What We Are Looking For
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the safety of children, young people, and people with a disability.
  • An understanding of strength-based trauma informed practice (or willingness to learn).
  • Qualifications in Community Services, Residential Care, Welfare of other related areas (Cert IV) (highly regarded).
  • Previous experience in residential therapeutic care and complex trauma (highly regarded).
  • Willingness to work a flexible roster, including weekends, evenings and sleepovers.
  • Ability to obtain the NDIS Workers Screening Check prior to commencement.
  • Ability to obtain a paid NSW Working with Children Check prior to commencement.
  • Willingness to be registered on the NSW Residential Care Workers Register.
  • Complete a National Criminal History Check (paid by us).
  • Ability to be physically active and engage with young people playing games/sport etc.
  • Ability to use computers and learn a variety of software/programs.
  • Hold a current Australian Driver's License.
