About This Role

We are seeking an experienced Database Specialist to join our team in supporting critical systems within the defence sector.

This is a hands-on position where you'll be responsible for maintaining, optimising, and securing databases that underpin key operations, ensuring high availability and performance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and administer SQL Server databases using SSMS, ensuring security, performance, and availability.
  • Configure and administer Internet Information Services (IIS) for hosting web applications.
  • Monitor database performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure high levels of availability and performance.
  • Perform routine maintenance, patching, and upgrades across database and server environments.
  • Partner with developers to optimise queries and enhance application performance.
  • Create and maintain clear documentation of database processes and configurations.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and apply best practices in security and optimisation.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator, preferably in a defence environment.
  • Strong experience with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) for database management and administration.
  • Familiarity with database backup and recovery strategies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
