The role of a Fire Communications Officer (FCO) is to manage emergency call taking, dispatching on-scene communications, coordinating and managing resources, monitoring fire alarms, processing enquiries, and producing reports.

Key Requirements
  • A valid Blue Card with supporting evidence
  • Australian Citizenship, New Zealand Citizenship, or Australian Residency
  • Certificate III in Public Safety (Emergency Communications Centre Operations)
  • Ability to complete the Communications Training and Professional Development Program (CTPDP) at the prescribed level
Your Key Accountabilities
  1. Accept incoming emergency incident calls and collect relevant information
  2. Assess risks associated with a situation and available resources to determine an appropriate response
  3. Dispatch and coordinate resources to calls for assistance and notify other organisations according to Communication Doctrine and Directives
  4. Maintain and update incident information in the centre's computer-aided dispatch system, monitor progress, and support operational staff until completion
  5. Complete post-incident administration, including provision of information and reports to stations and agencies
  6. Monitor alarm signals and respond according to Communications Doctrine and Directives
  7. Provide guidance and mentoring to new staff members
  8. Contribute to improvement of operational and administrative systems and procedures
  9. Identify technical faults and liaise with Specialist Operational Services Unit for reporting, maintenance, and updates of communications technology
  10. Undertake general administrative and project duties, such as maintaining resource information and conducting regular tests of systems and equipment
