Safety and Compliance Manager

The Safety, Risk and Audit Manager is a critical position responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the Aviation Academy's safety management system (SMS) and risk management framework. This role also involves conducting audits and investigations, providing expert advice, and ensuring aviation projects align with the University's strategic direction.
This position requires a strong understanding of Safety Management Systems, aviation accident/incident investigation, and human factors. The successful candidate will have experience in planning and implementing quality, safety, and risk management systems, processes, and techniques to support a SMS.
The ideal candidate will be able to identify changes in global regulatory frameworks and adapt organisational risk strategies and systems as required. They will also have extensive knowledge and experience of managing compliance and regulatory requirements of aviation contracts, including external regulators such as CASA.
This role requires excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively, influence/inspire a safety culture, and develop relationships that aid delivery of business outcomes. The successful candidate will also have superior attention to detail, coupled with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the Aviation Academy's safety management system (SMS) and risk management framework
- Conduct audits and investigations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
- Provide expert advice on safety and risk management matters
- Ensure aviation projects align with the University's strategic direction
- Manage compliance and regulatory requirements of aviation contracts
Requirements
- Strong understanding of Safety Management Systems and aviation accident/incident investigation
- Experience in planning and implementing quality, safety, and risk management systems
- Ability to identify changes in global regulatory frameworks and adapt organisational risk strategies and systems
- Extensive knowledge and experience of managing compliance and regulatory requirements of aviation contracts
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively
