Role Overview

The Koorie Engagement Support Officer plays a pivotal role in enhancing educational outcomes for Indigenous children and young people.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Stakeholder Engagement: Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders to improve engagement, wellbeing, and achievement for Indigenous children and young people.
  2. Cultural Inclusion: Facilitate improved access to universal and targeted educational services for Indigenous families and communities.
  3. Advice Provision: Provide advice to education providers on establishing culturally inclusive learning environments.
  4. Outcome Improvement: Work systemically with departments and agencies to improve outcomes for Indigenous children and young people.
Selection Criteria
  1. Specialist Expertise: Koorie Engagement & Culture
    • Referral Agencies: Identify relevant referral agencies and support services to support the educational success of Indigenous children and young people.
    • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with key stakeholders in government and community for a common educational purpose.
    • Educational Values: Work with community and key stakeholders to share educational values and responsibility for achievement, engagement, education-related wellbeing programs, and activities for Indigenous children, young people, and their families engaged in education.
  2. Project Management:
    • Project Planning: Develop project plans that clearly describe program/service objectives, actions required, and progress made.
    • Team Coordination: Organize and coordinate regular meetings to support other members of the regional Indigenous Education Workforce team.
    • Issue Resolution: Anticipate potential issues and facilitate solutions to ensure program objectives are met.
  3. Relationship Building:
    • Relationship Establishment: Establish and maintain effective relationships with people at all Departmental levels, stakeholder groups, organizations, and communities.
    • Trust Building: Build trust through consistent action, communication, and implementation.
  4. Initiative & Accountability:
    • Proactive Approach: Be proactive, initiate action, and follow processes.
    • Opportunity Identification: Identify opportunities and act on them.
  5. Communication:
    • Clear Communication: Ensure written communication contains necessary information to achieve its purpose and intent.
