Globe 24-7, in collaboration with a prominent Global Tier 1 mining enterprise, presents an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned Senior Underground Geologist to contribute to a mining operation on a FIFO schedule.

Position Overview

Oversee all facets of Underground Geological Operations, including the training and development of staff, diamond drilling for grade control, geological mapping, reconciliation, and modeling, adhering to the company’s Geological Process standards. Ensure prompt and precise contributions to mining, mine design, and production strategies.

  • Supervise geological grade control and production initiatives.
  • Accountable for mine-to-mill and resource reconciliation and reporting.
  • Direct drilling initiatives, encompassing target identification, program design, execution, and data management efficiently.
  • Create 3D geological models and resource assessments to enhance the geological comprehension of the deposit and guarantee accurate grade control before extraction.
  • Promote and uphold high-quality standards, systems, and procedures across all geological functions.
  • Maintain a strong focus on health, safety, and environmental awareness, ensuring compliance with the Health, Safety & Environment Policy and all safety regulations.
  • Conduct routine production core logging, including downhole survey validations and significant intersection calculations, addressing any discrepancies with involved parties.
  • Execute underground geological mapping, sampling, quality assurance, reporting, and data management tasks.
  • Perform stope definition targeting, drillhole design, geological interpretation, and modeling.
  • Engage in underground geological modeling and resource evaluations in collaboration with the Resource Geologist.
  • Prepare underground resource assessments and reserve depletion reports in conjunction with the Underground Engineer.
  • Monitor underground geological systems and business processes, identifying and prioritizing enhancement opportunities, and developing alternatives and improvements to existing systems and methods.
  • Assist the Geology Manager in implementing change management initiatives and other business enhancement projects.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Geology or a related discipline.
  • Membership in AusIMM, AIG, or equivalent professional body.
  • Proficient in geological mapping, logging, and interpretation.
  • Knowledgeable in geostatistics and ore reserve estimation.
  • Solid understanding of sampling methodologies and theories.
  • Familiarity with grade control practices and their application in underground mining.
  • Experience managing all technical aspects of drilling programs.
  • Basic understanding of geotechnical and metallurgical processes.
  • Stope-scale interpretive capabilities.
  • Proven leadership skills with a track record of enhancing team safety awareness.
  • Comprehensive understanding of relevant legislation affecting employment and safety in the mining sector.
  • Experience in cost management and budgeting.
  • Demonstrated application of continuous improvement strategies.
  • Ability to develop 3D geological interpretations/models using Datamine software.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in 3D Datamine/Minesight for evaluating underground targets with digital data.
