The role of a Policy Leader for Public Access and Information Rights is to spearhead the Victorian public sector's approach to public access to information under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act). This involves promoting understanding of the Information Privacy Principles under the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (PDP Act).

  1. Strong knowledge of the operation of the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Vic) and the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014.
  2. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  3. Research experience.
  4. Strong analytical, legal, and policy analysis skills.

A relevant tertiary qualification and/or experience in government operations, freedom of information, privacy, and information management are highly desirable. The position requires shaping the sector's policies and guidelines on public access to information, conducting research, preparing guidance materials, providing advice, reviewing draft legislation and proposals, preparing submissions for consultations and inquiries, and assisting with presentations.

This is a security-cleared position. Applicants must successfully obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance and be Australian citizens.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To provide expert advice on freedom of information and privacy issues.
  • To conduct research and analysis on emerging trends and best practices in freedom of information and privacy.
  • To collaborate with stakeholders to develop and maintain relationships that support the achievement of our objectives.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Law, Politics, or related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
