Recovery Oriented Peer Worker Opportunity

EACH Victoria seeks a compassionate and experienced individual to join our team as an Adult Complex & Severe Peer Worker. As a valued member of our community-based health services, you will use your lived experience to empower others on their recovery journey.

About the Role

This part-time 0.6FTE opportunity is available until June 2025 (possibility to extend). Based at our Coffs Harbour office, you will work closely with our team to provide peer support services that foster positive change and a brighter future for those navigating recovery.

In this role, you will:

  • Build meaningful relationships by sharing your experiences, fostering hope, and promoting social change.
  • Provide one-on-one peer support onsite and through outreach, as well as facilitate peer support groups.
  • Offer secondary consultation and education to staff and service providers to enhance recovery-oriented mental health and substance use services.
  • Help clients identify and develop recovery goals, promoting hope, choice, and social connectedness.
  • Engage in reflective practice to ensure your work aligns with best practices.
  • Uphold recovery-focused values and utilize intentional peer support principles to create empathic and supportive relationships.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Lived experience of mental illness, substance dependence, and/or trauma.
  • Lived experience of the recovery journey.
  • Group facilitation skills.
  • Understanding of human rights, social justice, trauma-informed care, and harm minimization.
  • Personal experience of the public or private mental health or AOD systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of the local area and its health services and other community services.
