Blacktown City Council is a thriving urban entity, situated midway between Sydney and the Blue Mountains.

About This Opportunity

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced senior planner to provide expertise as an advisor to the Corporate Counsel team.

You will have the chance to learn from and collaborate with in-house legal experts, including the Executive Corporate Counsel, Senior Lawyer, and Manager of Planning.

Liaising with external firms, developers, and engineers, you will support community interests and meet planning objectives for the city.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure accurate and timely assessment of planning matters in relation to compliance with relevant controls
  • Prepare documents, including those for filing in court on behalf of the council
  • Make recommendations on improving systems, processes, and workflow to accommodate internal and external stakeholder needs
  • Manage and coordinate consultant work (e.g. town planners, environmental specialists) to ensure effective defence of appeals
  • Implement processes correctly and efficiently using the council's business process management system
  • Consult with all stakeholders appropriately
Qualifications and Skills Required
  • Degree qualifications in Town Planning or a related field
  • Extensive experience in planning-related matters
  • Current Class C driver's licence
Remuneration and Benefits
  • Salary and employment conditions in accordance with the Enterprise Agreement
  • Entry-level salary starts at $115,882 per annum
  • 35-hour working week
