Your Role

The position is for a Senior Casualty Underwriter within the Casualty team. The role involves underwriting new and renewal Casualty accounts in line with Chubb guidelines, as well as developing business from an allocated panel of Independent and Global brokers within their delegated authority.

The successful candidate will have the ability to build and maintain relationships with a panel of brokers and tenacity and skill in pursuing target accounts. They will also establish and execute business plans to maximize opportunities with those brokers.

Your Responsibilities:

Achievement of the Personal Premium Budget

  • Working within the Casualty department, on an assigned broker panel
  • Underwriting a Primary, Umbrella, and Excess Liability portfolio in accordance with Chubb underwriting strategy
  • Selecting new risks and underwriting renewals for assigned book of business and/or for designated specialty classes or market segments
  • Organizing and presenting significant, complex accounts to Branch, Regional, or Global referral points for approval as applicable
  • The role is split equally between development work and managing the existing portfolio
  • Accounts include a mix of Australian indigenous business and Multinational programs, including fronting placements; typical premium size ranges from $25,000 to $1,000,000
  • Key player on multi-departmental accounts
  • Providing technical leadership for underwriting/marketing in the department or branch, including risk referrals and portfolio management; serving as a resource regarding unique coverage needs
  • Providing expertise in a specialty given Customer Group or line of business
  • Maintaining a high-level understanding of pricing individual risk exposures
  • Assisting others in the development of pricing strategies, renewal negotiation strategy, and developing game plans on new business submissions
  • May serve as a higher level of underwriting authority for others in branch

Relationship Management

  • Identifying, analyzing, and developing sources of desirable new business opportunities, including cross-departmental and pipeline opportunities
  • Preparing, delivering, and negotiating quotations
  • Collaboration with other Product lines, including whole of account underwriting and broker meetings
  • Building and maintaining long-term relationships with key producers and Insureds; dealing with producer principals on complex underwriting issues
  • Presenting to prospective producers; may initiate new producer appointments
  • Identifying and sharing information within the company regarding competitors' products and underwriting
  • Providing expertise on accessing opportunities for growth in specialty, customer, or Product line groups

Communication

  • Delivering product and capability presentations both internally and to Brokers and clients
  • Preparing, delivering, and negotiating quotations
  • Reporting to department manager for growth, profitability, etc. of assigned brokers & Accounts
  • Coaching
  • Taking referrals and providing training and guidance to less experienced staff
