About the Role
This ongoing full-time position reports to the Associate Director, Student Life and works collaboratively with teachers and managers at all levels to engage, retain, and build the success of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
You will be responsible for coordinating student engagement and retention strategies, developing and implementing activities and approaches that support the development, implementation and review of our Reconciliation Action Plan, and facilitating events, programs, and projects designed to raise awareness and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and culture within our community.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement culturally sensitive educational programs and activities to support the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
- Collaborate with teachers and managers to develop and implement student engagement and retention strategies
- Provide individualized support and guidance to students to help them achieve their academic goals
- Build relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, internal and external stakeholders to create positive educational pathways
- Contribute to the growth and influence of our consultative and partnership relationships with the Koorie Community and other education organisations serving the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients
Your Requirements
- A relevant diploma or higher qualification in education, program delivery, business, community, youth work, welfare, counselling, or equivalent
- Professional experience working within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education or community sector, including collaborating with community networks to identify and address community needs
- Cultural understanding and safety: demonstrated experience and knowledge of Koorie culture and history, with the ability to proactively contribute to building Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural safety and respect within BHI for employees, students, and visitors
- Ability to build relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, internal and external stakeholders which assist to create positive educational pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
- Administration and accountability: capacity to work well under pressure with the ability to prioritise and meet reporting and project deadlines in the context of good communication skills and sound record keeping
About You
You will be an experienced and skilled practitioner with a passion for working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and communities. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Salary
The successful candidate will receive a salary of $77,949 per annum, plus superannuation.
