About the Role
This is a casual position available at our Elgar Road Campus, Box Hill. You will provide professional and accurate interpreting services to support students who use Auslan as their preferred language in the classroom and other settings. As a key member of our Student Life team, you will work collaboratively with Disability Liaison staff, Teachers, Tutors, Learning Support Workers, Customer Service staff and students requiring Auslan interpreting services.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in interpreting between Auslan and English, minimum NAATI Certified Provisional or Certified Interpreter level, and a developed understanding of how to support students in a professional and respectful manner. You will also possess excellent communication skills, including the ability to listen actively and seek ways to improve service delivery to meet individual needs.
Salary and Benefits
We offer an attractive hourly rate of $60 per hour during business hours and $70 per hour after hours. Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in interpreting between Auslan and English
- Minimum NAATI Certified Provisional or Certified Interpreter level
- Demonstrated knowledge of the needs of people who are Deaf, hard of hearing or who experience barriers to participation and of the values and legislative framework that inform quality disability support services in an educational setting
- Demonstrated commitment to promoting a culture of child safety, complying with the Child Safe Standards and other relevant legislation and reporting obligations of suspected child abuse
