About Us

We are seeking a dedicated Aboriginal Health Practitioner to join our multidisciplinary team at the Royal Darwin Hospital. As a member of our team, you will provide culturally safe and autonomous Primary Health Care services to adolescent Aboriginal clients in the provision of services, promoting wellbeing and providing health education and training to other health workers and the wider community.

The ideal candidate will have experience working as a successful practitioner with the ability to provide comprehensive Indigenous Primary Health Care Practice within the holistic concept and the ability to identify and assess meaningful aspects or principles of care.

  • Provide a culturally responsive service in collaboration with other healthcare professionals, develop case management and healthcare plans and support Aboriginal people in complying with their care plan.
  • Engage with community members to strengthen community involvement in health service delivery.
  • Provide health practice and cultural support to other health professionals to build cultural competence and responsiveness.
  • Provide clinical supervision, mentoring, and support of Trainee Aboriginal Health Practitioners to develop competent practitioners.
  • In partnership with other health professionals provide health education and promotion programs in a community.
  • Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
  • Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practice and role modelling behaviour.

You'll bring a collaborative, patient-centred approach to care and thrive in a culturally diverse environment. To be successful in this role you will:

  • Be registered with the relevant governing body with no conditions.
  • Succesfully completed relevant qualification; and evidence of maintaining continuous professional development activities.
  • Demonstrated local cultural knowledge and exercise cultural respect and safety at the individual and family levels; and ability to provide cultural awareness training to non-local health staff.
About the Role

This is an ongoing full-time vacancy available in the Paediatric department at Royal Darwin Hospital. You will be part of a multidisciplinary unit delivering specialist care to children across the Northern Territory.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver culturally responsive primary health care services to adolescent Aboriginal clients.
  • Develop and implement healthcare plans in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
  • Support Aboriginal people in complying with their care plan.
