
Aboriginal Cultural Advancement Professional

The role of Aboriginal Cultural Advancement Professional will support the development of cultural capability and connection to the Aboriginal community. This position will collaborate on the Mara Ngali Agreement between local Indigenous communities and drive the Closing the Gap strategy with place-based solutions and meaningful local initiatives.
The Key Objectives- Engage with local people to protect and celebrate Aboriginal culture in the community using kinship and connections
- Lead initiatives to embed culture and meet Closing the Gap targets
- Develop impactful policies and build partnerships with Indigenous communities
- Deliver projects and reports on employment, procurement and cultural inclusion
- Drive Council's progress in achieving Closing the Gap targets
- Develop policy and strategy to embed Aboriginal cultural awareness throughout the organisation
- Leverage relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, communities and relevant government departments
- Oversee projects and initiatives addressing Closing the Gap targets
- Deliver practical progress in recruitment, retention, contractor procurement, partnerships and investment opportunities related to Closing the Gap
- Provide accurate reporting on Closing the Gap targets, including Aboriginal cultural inclusion metrics
This role requires a strong understanding of Aboriginal cultures and histories, as well as experience working with Indigenous communities. The successful candidate will be passionate about driving positive change and advancing the Closing the Gap strategy.
Skills and QualificationsA strong understanding of Aboriginal cultures and histories is essential for this role. Experience working with Indigenous communities and a proven track record of driving positive change are highly desirable. A Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
